SummerStage Concerts are Everything

SummerStage

Capital One City Parks Foundation SummerStage is yet again bringing forth an unforgettable free musical experience. I attended my first SummerStage concert and was blown away. I sat in my seat and I looked around at the impressive stage set up and lighting. From the bleachers to the grass, concert goers decorated the venue with picnic mats and colorful summer attire. The energy at this event is somewhere between relaxation and excitement—folks came to be entertained and to enjoy themselves.

SummerStage has become a standard of sorts for its production quality and variety of up and coming and established acts and free concerts. SummerStage in Central Park kept the fans on their feet (me included), and entertained well into the evening.

Gospel at SummerStage

You might not typically associate concerts in NYC with gospel music, however, my SummerStage musical experience began with the soaring vocals of good ole’ church music. The  famous La Guardia High School Gospel Choir performed well known hymns and original music  to an enthused crowd. I was blown away by the level of professionalism from the teenagers. It was as if Kirk Franklin and the Clark Sisters were performing mere feet away from me.

The Rise of Say She She

The SummerStage concert at Central Park provided Say She She with the perfect platform to showcase their immense talent and leave a lasting impression on the audience. From the moment they stepped on stage, the band’s electrifying energy filled the air, setting the tone for an unforgettable performance. The crowd was instantly captivated by the harmonious blend of their voices, complemented by the infectious beats and energetic instrumentation.

Formed in the vibrant borough of Brooklyn, Say She She burst onto the music scene, captivating listeners with their irresistible charm and soulful melodies. The exceptionally talented young women quickly gained a loyal following for their captivating blend of pop, rock, and soul. With their distinct harmonies, meaningful lyrics, and an electric stage presence, Say She She has carved a niche for themselves in the music industry.

Say She She’s music effortlessly blends various genres, infusing pop hooks with rock-infused melodies and soulful undertones. Their songs are a testament to their exceptional songwriting abilities, as they tackle themes of love, empowerment, and self-discovery. With each track, Say She She weaves a narrative that resonates deeply with their listeners, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts.

Words from SummerStage

Erika Elliot Executive Artistic Director of SummerStage said, “We are thrilled to be back for another season bringing amazing local talent to all five boroughs throughout the summer”

“For our season’s official free opening show on June 10, we are excited to present a stellar night of music with performances by St. Paul and The Broken Bones, Brooklyn-based soul band Say She She, and Harlem-based jazz and soul collective Mwenso and The Shakes. It’s an incredible way to start our season so you won’t want to miss it!”

Takeaways

The concert reached its crescendo with Say She She’s chart-topping hit “Unbreakable,” a powerful anthem of resilience and empowerment. As the crowd sang along with passion and enthusiasm, it became clear that Say She She’s music resonated deeply with their fans.

The SummerStage concert in Central Park was an extraordinary showcase of incredible artistry and captivating performances. From the venue itself to the diversity of talent, it’s definitely a showcase to watch and attend.
