Rotary Club event to collect 500 boxes of feminine hygiene products for homeless shelter

On March 25, the price of entry to a luxe wine and hors d’oeuvres party is… a couple of boxes of tampons or pads!

Project Pad, an event hosted by the Brooklyn Bridge Rotary Club, will be held at The Great Room in Carroll Gardens. The purpose: to stock up the New Horizons family homeless shelter in East New York with feminine hygiene products, which they rarely can make available for residents.

“Imagine the anguish of a teenager, or her mom, in need of tampons and not able to get them,” said Kimberly Price, club president. “The shelter residents are already in a desperate situation. This will enable them to have at least a modicum of dignity.”

Members of the Rotary Club are getting the word out to local stores that could donate these products, as well as asking their friends, family and neighbors to attend the party and each bring a few packages.

Wine and food have been donated by local merchants and stores, in honor of this helpful cause, and raffles will also be held to raise funds.

“If 100 people attend, we should reach our goal of 500 boxes,” said Jeannie Jackson, president-elect of the Rotary Club. “We’ve also reached out to some manufacturers and hope that they’ll donate as well as the local stores and regular Brooklynites.”

The Project Pad event takes place at The Great Room, 194 Columbia Street (between Sackett and DeGraw Streets), on Wednesday evening, March 25, from 6-8 pm. For more information, contact admin@BrooklynBridgeRotaryClub.org.

  1. Pads are as needed as tampons. Many women, especially many women of color, don’t use tampons.
I hope that detail makes it in to your effort.
